6 Autumn Skincare Hacks For Beautiful Skin

Autumn is here and that means cooler temperatures, a drop in humidity, and heating! The change in weather requires a few switch-ups to your skincare regime to maintain hydration and keep irritation at bay.

Autumn is also a great time to repair any damage to your skin caused by too much sun and the heat of summer. Sorting out your skin now will set you up for the winter ahead. Our expert beauty therapists have put together some Autumn skincare recommendations especially for you!

6 skincare tips for beautiful skin this autumn

1. Exfoliate skin gently

Get rid of parched, flaky skin from summer and give yourself a lovely glow with a gentle exfoliation. Use a light circular action from the centre of your face outward - avoid hard pressure or scrubbing at your skin as this can cause damage.

For sensitive skin, exfoliating once a week or fortnight should be enough. If you have problem-free skin, twice a week should be fine.

2. Switch to a richer moisturiser

Changing your skincare products seasonally gives your skin the right ingredients for the conditions. In warmer weather increased humidity means you often only need a light moisturiser, whereas in cooler months the drier air can cause dryness and irritation, so additional hydration is important.

3. Use a hydrating cleanser

In autumn, switch from gel cleansers and face washes to a gentler, more hydrating cleanser to avoid stripping your skin. Wipe-off cream cleansers and micellar waters are perfect as you don't need to rinse them off - we all know that hot water isn't great for our skin!

4. Continue using sunscreen

You might not be seeing as much sun in Autumn, but UV radiation is present year-round. Keep your skin protected daily with a high SPF sunscreen (at least 30 SPF).

5. Avoid skin irritants

Constant changes in temperature (think hot showers, cold outdoor air, and warm, stuffy offices) can cause skin irritation, leading to flaking, dryness, skin flare-ups like eczema, and breakouts. Keep an eye on the temperature of your showers, wrap up warm when you go outside, and wear warmer clothing indoors so you don't have to crank the heating up too high.

6. Watch your diet

Changing to more comforting foods can also mess with your skin, with fattier foods clogging our skin and causing breakouts. We're also likely to drink less water which can affect the hydration levels in our skin.

Instead of going on a carb-binge, continue to eat plenty of fruit and veggies, stick to healthy fats and oils, and keep drinking plenty of water throughout autumn to maintain your hydration from the inside.
